Sonic Pi: a short introduction

An introduction

Ever since I've known about live coding music, I've wanted to do it. And ever since I’ve wanted to do it, I’ve wanted to do it on Sonic Pi. But fact is, ‘ever since’ has been three laptops, eight years, zero code. Until now, that is. The prospects, I must say, are really exciting.

What is Sonic Pi?

Sonic Pi’s website makes two claims, one objective truth, one speculative. On the one hand, it says it is a code-based music creation and performance tool, which it most certainly is. On the other, it says it is the future of music, which is both debatable and exciting. I don’t know if the future of music will be live coding, but it could very well be a part of it.
